Djamra - Transplantation (POSEIDON PRF-015 / MUSEA FGBG 4523.AR) Djamra is R.I.O. style jazz-rock band led by bassist Masaharu Nakakita. This four piece (Bass, Sax, Trumpet and Drums) are the young band. The music has taste of King Crimson and R.I.O. music, as well as heavy funk. They released a demo CD-R, first full CD and four live CD-R. Transplantation is their second official studio album. Three guest musicians played fully on this album (Guitar, Keyboards and Alt Sax). The music of DJAMRA is cerebral and will appeal to your right of the brain. |

Ausia - Kasakasa (POSEIDON PRF-013 / MUSEA FGBG 4497.AR) AUSIA is a very original project of three famous musicians of the Japanese progressive rock scene, Akihisa Tsuboy on violin (KBB, STRING ARGUMENTS...), Source K.Adachi on guitar, mandolin and vocal (ADACHI KYODAI) and Yukihiro Isso on recorder, shinobue and dengakubue. This "unplugged" album is made of 9 pieces, mainly instrumental, that can't be compared to anything else. Of course the dialogues between acoustic guitar and flute, with some rare vocal parts, may recall JETHRO TULL in its most acoustic periods, but AUSIA's influences also includes medieval and Renaissance's music, Japanese traditional music, and a lot of other musical worlds! This mix of ethnic, folk, jazz, and "acoustic progressive" is full of freshness and personality, of spinning round flute parts, together with acoustic guitar arpeggios or chords, and delicate ? or fierce sometimes-violin parts. |
SIXNORTH - PLAYER (POSEIDON PRF-011 / MUSEA FGBG 4520.AR) SIXNORTH is an eight-member jazz-rock group from Kyoto, Japan. The band is led by bassist, composer and producer Hideyuki Shima, a graduate of the Berkeley College of Music. Other chief members include singer Chizuko Ura and drummer Hiroshi "Gori" Matsuda. Also keyboard players, guitar players and a saxophonist played on the second album. Their music style is jazz rock with dynamic cosmic feeling. David Sinclair (ex-Caravan) played organ on a tune called Richard. |
Igzit-nine - same (POSEIDON PRF-009 / MUSEA FGBG 4517.AR) Igzit-nine is a new Japanese band, formed by BRAIN SALAD's ex-members Noboru Inoue (guitar, keyboards, percussion) and Emi Hatsusaka (keyboards, percussion). The rhythm section that played on this album left the band since the recording; the new one includes SIXNORTH's bass player H. Shima. This is a fantastic instrumental progressive jazz-rock, played by real virtuosos, but also melodies lovers: in a vein near KENSO, or the best SIDE STEPS, IGZIT-NINE creates eight powerful, dynamic instrumental pieces, full of beautiful, melodious dialogues between keyboards and guitars, with a sense of musical emphasis that brings them sometimes near YES or Finish musician Pekka Pohjola. Just astounding! |

Daimonji - Improg. (POSEIDON Records PRF-014 / Musea FGBG4522.AR) Three talented new music performer formed improvisation progressive rock band called Improg. They developed their music and changed their name to Daimonji. The keyboard player is Hoppy Kamiyama who is the owner of God Mountain Records. He released Tipographica, Altered States and some of Tatsuya Yoshida's titles. The drummer is Tatsuya Yoshida who leads famous avan-prog duo Ruins. He has many side projects such as Koenji Hyakkei, Korekyojin or Akaten. The bassist is Mitsuru Nasuno who plays on many avan-prog band such as Altered States, Ground Zero or Korekyojin. The music style of Daimonji is Zeuhl jazz rock and some close to Koenji Hyakkei. |
Morsof - Heap (POSEIDON Records PRF-006 / Musea FGBG4524.AR) Morsof, short for Morning Machine & Soft Musme. Obviously the name is a juxtaposition of Soft Machine and Morning Musume (current teen-age craze, a bundle of all-girls pop cute-package), though there's nothing of Morning Musume in it, apparently. As for Soft Machine part of it, there's plenty. Twisted theme progresses into exploding improvisations in the vein of Sun Ra, somehow wearing the very color of Soft Machine, without being self indulgent but within discipline. The band is yet to release an album, so this track makes a rare appearance. The guitarist, Mikio Fukushima, also acts as the leader of progressive jazz funk band called Killing Floor. |

KBB - Four Corner's Sky (POSEIDON Records PRF-008 / Musea FBGB4501.AR) KBB, a japanese band which exist since 1992, their first album "Lost and found", was released in 2000. It includes a violin player, Akihisa Tsuboy (who also plays guitar, and is a member of the band STRINGS ARGUMENTS), a new keyboardist, a bass/guitar player and a drummer. Their instrumental progressive jazz-rock was already brilliant in their first album, and now reaches full maturity. Powerful, dynamic, enthusiast: their music is absolutely astounding. You may think of Mahavisnu/Jean-Luc Ponty meeting Curved Air/UK, but these warmful melodies, these complex dialogues between violin and keyboards, this roaming bass and sophisticated rhythms, haven't been heard before. Mixing lyricism and power, KBB sometimes appear as a little brother of Outer Limits, the great japanese band. A revelation ! http://tsuboy.internet.ne.jp/kbb/index-e.html |

Mizukagami - same (POSEIDON Records PRF-005 / Musea FGBG 4496AR) Typical Japanese progressive rock close to Shingetsu, Pageant or Vermilion Sands. They are five peaces band consisted by female vocalist who plays flute, keyboard player, bassist, drummer and guitarist. The music is complex of symphonic rock with Mellotron and Japanese traditional feeling. Junya Anan the main composer came from the band of Pediment. Mizukagami is the real successor of '80s golden age of Japanese progressive rock. http://www.mizukagami.jp/ |

Adachi Kyodai - same (POSEIDON Records PRF-004 / Musea FGBG 4495AR) The guitar duet who has surprised all audience that hear them. Two brothers have backgourd of Japanese Traditional music "Nagauta" family. They play very original, strong guitar music. They were influenced by John Mclaughlin, Jethro Tull, King Crimson and The Who. Of course, their music sounds like nothing but their own music style. They have jammed with many musicians, for example, KAZUMI Watanabe, KIYOHIKO Semba, YUKIHIRO Isso, Elton Dean(ex-Gong) and Phill Miller. Adachi Kyodai by whom the name is known also as a main member of Ausia was the expert of acoustic music, but they has not published studio recording until now. The debut work which they released at last, is so beautiful and forcible that we wants to repeat all along.. http://www.geocities.co.jp/MusicStar-Drum/8042/a-bros/index.html |

fossil - same (POSEIDON Records PRM-003) "fossil" is the genealogy of Anthony Phillips or Mike Oldfield. Various kinds of musical instruments(at centering on a guitar) were woven and piled up in several times. Because of the wonderful music, we become feeling as if we are seeing kaleidoscope. |

It is the live recording of the day. lots of passion! |
Akihisa Tsuboy / Natsuki Kido Duo - Era (POSEIDON Records PRF-001) The acoustic duo album of Violin player of KBB and guitarist of Bondage The music is very beautiful. The CD features the compositions by each of the duo as well as improvisation that will leave the listeners wondering how two instruments could ever make sounds so rich. This recording delivers an astounding intensity found only in very few bands such as Shakti. This band is a real surprise! The live recording successfully captures the ambient of the venue as well. |
Head Pop-Up - Tokusen Burari Tabi (POSEIDON Records PRM-002) A jazz-rock band with long history from Yokohama. As Hiro Wada, the keyboardist, boasts of the band being the ultimate of the poor man's prog band, and is most characterized by the prog-maniac band configuration including twin keyboards and accordion. Probably due to being given arrangement by members with various backgrounds, the song is full of appeal to prog fans with its structure, development, phrasing and odd meters. Cool keyboards, energetic guitar solos are most remarkable in this performance. Band members besides Wada are: Hisashi Abe on drums, Atsushi Iwasawa on guitar, Teruro Mikami on bass and vocals, and Michiko Mayanagi on keyboards and vocals. |
Quikion - Hallelujah!! (POSEIDON Records PRM-001) Quikion (kee-kee-on), an acoustic unit featuring medieval instruments and female vocals. Dubbed as "Pascal Comelade meets Pentangle" as well as "the chansons from the mysterious forest", their early live performances were laden with rich melodies. This album can be more appealing for prog fans than the recent recordings. The Concertina plays the base harmony for the fast flowing female vocals which altogether weave a distinctively mysterious yet intense atmosphere. There are two other releases on CD, and both won high acclaim by music magazine reviewers. The members are Yukiko Totoki on vocals, concertina and rhythm machine, Emi Sasaki on accordion and glockenspiel, and Eiji Oguma on guitar. http://www.sound.jp/quikion/ |
